When I started out with affiliate marketing, all the gurus kept telling me that I "needed a plan to take action". This direction absolutely confused me. What plan? What action? Everything about affiliate marketing was so confusing that I didn't have a clear idea where to start.
It took probably about 6 months until I finally understood what they meant. But at that stage, I was able to make my own plan. For those of you who are still at the beginning stages - I'm going to share with what you I did to get started with my plan.
Learn.
This part of the process is what will need to happen before ANYTHING can happen. You'll spend so much time reading, and you won't be taking much action at all. You'll need to read about what keywords are and how to select them. Article marketing is also something that will feature a lot for you. Learning how to write articles, add keywords to them and how to effectively submit them to article marketing databases is another big topic for newbies to conquer.
Clickbank, html and links will also feature in your early education. All the while, your head will be filling up with so much info that you won't know if you are coming or going. This is a normal part of the learning process - a little like starting a university course at the deep end!
Using what you've learned
This is the point when finally things start coming together for you. Many newcomers will drop by the wayside at this point, but the truly determined will continue on their mission to make their online income. During this time, I was fortunate enough to come across some very good training material that helped me understand how to piece everything together.
As I kept going on the treadmill of learning and working, I started to discover which niches were working for me. I learned how to get conversions on my campaigns. This was truly the most valuable part of my affiliate marketing education.
Development of your own websites.
Once you have discovered which niches are being successful for you in terms of profit, you'll be ready to build your own sites. It's essential to move onto having your own sites once you have learned enough to market products. Without having your own sites, you are at the mercy of the bigger free sites. If they decide to close or change their rules, all your affiliate marketing income will disappear.
With your own sites, it will be up to you to use the knowledge that you have already acquired. You'll know which keywords are working and what people are looking for. You can use this information to select domains that will work and to optimise your sites and pages for successful search engine results.
